Adult Eye Exams

Most adults should have their eyes examined every two years. However, some patients are more prone to eye diseases and vision problems than others and need to see an Optometrist more frequently.

Patients who wear contact lenses, have undergone laser eye surgery, or have underlying health conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure should have their eyes examined annually. If you’re not sure how often you need an eye exam, check in with our staff; they would be happy to give you an answer.

Eye Exams For Everyone

Most adults should book an eye exam every two years. If you have a family history of eye disease, wear contact lenses, or have noticed changes in your vision, your optometrist may recommend coming into us more often. Abbey Eye Care’s Oakville clinic makes it easy to stay on schedule with flexible hours and online booking.

Patients over 65 face a significantly higher risk of eye disease, including cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. OHIP coverage reflects that risk: if your eyes are healthy with no progressive eye disease, you’re covered for an eye exam every 18 months; if you have an active or progressive eye condition, coverage moves to every 12 months. Not sure which applies to you? Give our Oakville clinic a call and we’ll sort it out. Please note that advanced imaging is not OHIP insured.

Diabetes increases the risk of diabetic retinopathy and other vision-threatening conditions. OHIP covers one full eye examination per year for patients with diabetes, and we recommend taking advantage of that since regular monitoring is one of the best ways to protect your sight long-term. Please note that advanced imaging to help us detect diabetic retinopathy earlier and better manage the condition is not OHIP insured.

Every comprehensive eye exam at Abbey Eye Care includes a full vision assessment, eye health screening, and ample time to discuss any concerns with your optometrist. We use advanced diagnostic technology alongside hands-on clinical expertise, so nothing gets missed.

Behind every eye exam is a team that takes it seriously.
