Jetrea is the first and only drug to treat sight-threatening, symptomatic vitreomacular adhesion affecting an estimated 15,000 Canadians each year. Jetrea was approved by Health Canada in 2013.
Vitreomacular adhesion occurs when the gel inside the eye starts to pull on the retina. In doing so, vision can be distorted or blurred. If patients are affected by this and it doesn’t resolve on its own, Jetrea can be injected by a retinal specialist.
Jetrea is an active enzyme that works to break down the protein fibers that cause the abnormal pull between the gel inside the eye and the retina.
The Optometrists at Abbey Eye Care, with the use of highly advanced imaging, can determine if you have Vitreomacular Traction. If the diagnosis is confirmed we can send you to a Retinal specialist to see if you are indeed a candidate for a Jetrea injection.
