For people living with colour blindness, full colour vision is difficult to imagine. But you don’t have to imagine anymore with EnChroma.

Your eyes detect colour through special cells in your retina called cones. Each cone is specifically programmed to receive a certain colour of light. Colour blindness (or colour deficiency) occurs when someone has fewer functioning cones than average or when certain cones respond the same way to more than one type of light.
EnChroma lenses use a unique patent-pending technology called “multi notch” filtering, cutting out specific wavelengths of light. When two types of cone cells respond the same way to light, it causes two colours to look the same. EnChroma lenses eliminate certain light wavelengths, tricking the cones into responding to the light differently.
At Abbey Eye Care, we carry the most popular Enchroma styles in our office, both prescription and non-prescription are available. Prices in our store reflect current prices on the Enchroma website but in Canadian dollars. Any promotions offered online will be matched in store. You can stop by and try on the glasses and see the impact for yourself. 80% of people with a red-green CVD will see an improvement in their colour perception while wearing Enchroma glasses.
The effect can be instantaneous for some people while for others the impact will be more subtle and take a week or two to become noticeable. We encourage everyone to take the colour vision test on the Enchroma website, which will help determine if you’re a good fit for EnChroma. It is important to note that Enchroma lenses do not cure colour blindness or allow wearers to pass standardized colour vision tests. It is important to note that 20% of CVD patients who try EnChroma lenses have a “wow” moment and for 20% of patients there is no impact. The 60% in the middle will have a range of experiences. That being said, we encourage those with CVD to try Enchroma lenses for themselves to see how their world is affected by this amazing technology.
There are many different types of colour vision deficiencies, however, EnChroma’s design addresses red-green deficiency specifically. Statistics indicate that roughly 4 of every 5 cases of colour blindness will respond to EnChroma technology.

“I’ve seen all the optometrists, and most recently, Dr Adrienne Tong, twice. I found that she took the time to answer all my questions and was very kind and understanding. She was very thorough and looked into specific concerns that I had. I like the glasses I got, and found them to be reasonably priced. Dr Tong suggested a new coating for people who spend a lot of time looking at screens. It’s supposed to reduce strain on your eyes. I work at a screen several hours a day, and it feels like it was worth the very small additional cost. In fact, the morning before I went for the appointment, I was fiddling with my monitor settings because everything seemed “off,” somehow. I don’t know if it’s the coating or the new lenses, but I was quite surprised at the look of things now. I even tried with my old glasses to compare, and there is a significant difference. I do plan to return to Abbey Eye Care when the time comes.”
